BAN THE IMPORTATION AND

MANUFACTURE OF ENGINEERED STONE

Campaign update:

Work Health and Safety Ministers met in February 2023 and unanimously agreed to explore the deadly impacts of engineered stone on workers. The Ministers tasked Safe Work Australia with this job.

The report has been in the hands of Ministers since August and was publicly released in October. The Safe Work Australia report recommended a total ban on all engineered stone.

When the Ministers met in October, they kicked the can down the road on whether to ban engineered stone to their next meeting.

The report said what we already knew: this stone kills workers. The CFMEU pledges to keep fighting until the engineered stone ban is implemented.

CFMEU National Secretary Zach Smith said: “The CFMEU’s position is unmoved. If governments don’t carry through on banning engineered stone, the Union will. July 2024 remains our deadline.
